I still half expect one to pop up in unexpected places to chomp me, so it was the obvious choice to add to the empty flower pot in this vintage painting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe original vintage painting signed A.Beck was an unusual surface to others I’ve worked on before… it looks like the artist used the paint itself to adhere a porous mesh onto a wood board. It is very strange! The thickly applied paint make a fantastic texture, lots of cracking in the old surface. I suggest watching the reel of this being painted to get a more accurate view of the colours of this piece. The last photo is a scan of the original where the colour is much more flat lighting. You have to stand close to see the story within the painting… you can see that the child’s face is thumbnail size! This little piece has a lot of nice texture, which I worked around with the floating Sorgan frogs. The canvas itself was loose and saggy in one area, probably where it had been leaned against… but I repaired it with an old artist trick (spritzing the back with water so the canvas shrinks to fit the frame.) Mistakes are part of being an artist, and some of them are fixable... but watercolours are less forgiving! There is a small imperfection on one part of the paper. And, if you watch day reel, you would have noticed that I accidentally painted both of IG's hands the same... one is distinctly different! So I fixed it, but there is a shadow from where the original one was. You can see if in the photos. (If this bothers you, I recommend choosing a print because I removed those imperfections in Photoshop.) The branches on the trees aren’t uniform, you can tell she was wanting to capture that particular view in that moment. It was a fun story based on the idea that the transporter was malfunctioning and beaming up two versions of the same being… you guessed it, one good and one evil! Made for some dramatic acting from Captain Kirk! And the dog dressed in this costume with the massive horn and antennae was just wonderfully hilarious… he looked totally not impressed!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe vintage painting I used for this artwork was in rough shape when it came to me… I’m sure someone loved their pekingese very much to have his portrait painted years ago, but it looked a bit scary with its glazed over eyes! The painting itself was covered with grime, and so I cleaned it and was able to get the blue skies and grey stone colours back. mutations of the animals who lived there. So it’s much like an earth dog, but with a horn, antennae, scaled backbone, and hairless tail!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you haven’t heard of an Alfa-177 canine before, it made its debut on “The Enemy Within,” one of my favourite episodes of TOS. It was a fun story based on the idea that the transporter was malfunctioning and beaming up two versions of the same being… you guessed it, one good and one evil! Made for some dramatic acting from Captain Kirk! And the dog dressed in this costume with the massive horn and antennae was just wonderfully hilarious… he looked totally not impressed!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe vintage painting I used for this artwork was in rough shape when it came to me… I’m sure someone loved their pekingese very much to have his portrait painted years ago, but it looked a bit scary with it’s glazed over eyes! The painting itself was covered with grime, and so I cleaned it and was able to get the blue skies and grey stone colours back. I repaired the framing, gave it a gentle wash, then started my plan for making it a bit more fun…\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e…and painted in this enormous yellow octopus! Yellow seemed the best colour for this one, as the artist had used yellow ochre in places for little zings of colour. Beyond our recent sci-fi universe (Mandalorian, Darth Vader), this style of helmet with a dark visor and dark strip down the middle is inspired by the armour of the intimidating Crusaders of medieval times. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe little brother, Cylon Centurion c. 2003, came into the picture with the good looks, sleek physique and elegant weaponry. The episode where a small group board Galactica and hunt down the crew was absolutely terrifying!  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe family pet, Scar, was only featured in one episode of BSG2003, but was memorable in that he was a raider with a vendetta agains the human race. He remembered every time he had been shot down and painfully resurrected, and wanted revenge! He was cunning, and preferred to hide in plain site and then ambush passing vipers. There was also a fine rip developing, so I patched that. The frame had been painting a cream colour, so I gave it a coat of matte white paint to freshen it up a bit.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe original vintage painting by E. Harris was collected from @theemporiumbuyandsell in Burk’s Falls, Ontario. The original artist, Edwin Harris, was born in England and emigrated to Canada about 1906. Harris lived in Toronto till he passed about 1980. He was a hobby artist and copied other paintings. He was quite prolific, painting ships, cavaliers, flower still life, birds. Mount was originally purchased from The Art House in Toronto. I collected this painting from its original owner in the Simcoe area. The painting is in good condition, with minor fine cracking across the surface. The frame has been finely splattered with dark paint, but I think it adds character. The artist did a fantastic job of replicating this ship painting… though they forgot one mast, I had to add that in between the sails! There’s something about those childhood moments that were full of imagination and wonder. By adding in a character who was created to encourage and entertain children of that decade in particular, I aimed to bring those warm feelings back into this little eighties style landscape. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCollected from a local thrift store, the original vintage painting was by L. Vandenbrink. This painting is an example of a style that has fallen a bit in the grandpa \/ grandma art category, mainly I think due to the colour palette and style of frame… and I think it’s a shame, because it is very well done!
