Looking at history, it's interesting to remember that without cameras, drawings and painted portraits were the only way of capturing one's image. His beautiful nostalgic style and subject matter is gorgeous, and can be easily found in print form across the internet. It was a pleasure adding in this walker in the muted colour palette of the faded print, with textured brush strokes to emulate Daniels style.

The frame is in very good condition. The prints and downloads are colour matched to the actual painting, which is on the cooler side. It has lovely soft blue and mauve greys, subtle brick reds in a couple places. If you're interest in this painting and live locally I recommend arranging a visit to my studio to view the painting in person.

Shipping : This is an oversized painting, with the frame it is too large to send via normal post. Someone at some point had leaned on the painting in several places, creating radial crack patterns in the paint that reminded me of giant spider webs. With paint I accentuated those crack patterns to make them more obviously spider webs, and then enjoyed creeping myself out painting many spiders laying in wait for their next meal.

The scene in the Chamber of Secrets where Ron and Harry follow the spiders into the woods at night and become surrounded by acromantulas gives me the creeps! In the mid 1800s, photos were expensive and treasured items… often only one or two images captured of a person in their life (or death.) They were carried in pockets, stored in trunks travelling by carriage or ship. Displayed open on tabletop. But the sentiment of these photo boxes being that you owned one of someone you cared deeply for.

As I painted this portrait, I had one question go through my mind : who would have kept a portrait of Snape?

From the very first meeting, he was the villain, cold and cruel. But as each story unfolded, his actions proved him to be a loyal ally… secretly motivated by love to the last moment of his life. The little photo is incredible to look at, and feels like holding a piece of history in my hands. But like all old photos... without sentimental attachment, it loses its value. Minerva McGonagall, portrayed by Maggie Smith, is an absolute spitfire of a character. Her dry wit and sharp remarks had me in stitches… I loved how she could keep a classroom in line! And to my surprise I discovered, that Professor McGonagall was actually married! This character development was revealed outside the HP book series… but it was bittersweet to discover that the Professor we knew was actually a widow, as she had been married a few years to Elphinstone Urquart.

They were married in their later years so had no children, but lived in a cottage near the school so that Minerva could travel to work easily each day.
