Sustainability

Being thoughtful of my work's impact on the environment is an important part of my creative process. By nature what I do is keep unwanted art out of landfill... but I am always looking to improve my work practices! Drop me a note if you have any suggestions!

Sustainability and painting :

  • I locally source old paintings, prints and books to create new art
  • I locally source vintage and second hand paint supplies (watercolour and oil paint, brushes, easels)
  • I save hardware from vintage pieces to reuse when repairing frames and artwork
  • I repair the original vintage frames, but if unrepairable I prefer to source vintage frames and second hand glass locally
  • I keep paint out of the waterways by brushing excess paint onto spare canvas while I work... this creates a surface I can paint something new on.
  • Blotting paper on my desk is saved after projects for colourful giftware and notecards

Sustainability and prints :

  • my business cards and postcard prints are on 100% recycled stock
  • my prints are made-to-order, to avoid mass producing artwork. My print partner has locations worldwide, so any orders for prints on my website are actually created at a location close to you... to reduce shipping distance & costs.
  • my custom framed prints are framed in locally sourced vintage and reclaimed frames (keeping them out of landfill!)
  • custom made frames are made from locally reclaimed wood and materials
  • I use paper from old map books to cover the backs of prints

Sustainability and shipping / packaging :

  • when I buy boxes and wrapping paper I choose recycled content.
  • gift bags are 100% recycled paper
  • shipments are sent in reused shipping boxes and padding materials
  • I avoid using foam or plastic bubble wrap unless it is absolutely necessary, and prefer plastic packing materials on their second use
