Framed print of
“Frog on a Log in a Bog”
I found this sweet little painting in a bin at a local thrift store… such a lonely little pond! Right away memories of a familiar banjo song played in my mind. And I knew that what this abandoned painting needed was a frog, sitting on the log, singing about love and dreams and friendship.
Painting this transported me back to the summers of my 80’s childhood, catching frogs and tadpoles in the marshes, dragonflies flying overhead. There’s something about those childhood moments that were full of imagination and wonder. By adding in a character who was created to encourage and entertain children of that decade in particular, I aimed to bring those warm feelings back into this little eighties style landscape.
Collected from a local thrift store, the original vintage painting was by L. Vandenbrink. This painting is an example of a style that has fallen a bit in the grandpa / grandma art category, mainly I think due to the colour palette and style of frame… and I think it’s a shame, because it is very well done! By adding in the nostalgic narrative, I hope to express an appreciation for the work and skill that went into this piece years ago.
