So Juicy Sweet study No.4, charcoal on paper
This loose charcoal study was to prepare for my new altered painting inspired by the Sméagol singing about the fish he caught. The position of his hands particularly interested me.
During his unnaturally long life, he evolved to survive living in the depths of a cave in complete darkness. Where he used to walk upright, he resorted to crawling on hand and foot so squeeze through passages, and carefully make his way along and not bump his head! His hands were always groping and feeling their way along, and they became extremely strong and muscular. It was a lot of fun drawing them.
