Whenever I go for walks in the woods in Ontario during the late summer, my eyes are always on the forest floor looking for wild mushrooms! I am always amazed at the variety there are, in colour and shape and species. I enjoyed painting these miniature watercolour paintings inspired by the photographs I have taken of mushrooms I’ve found along my journeys.
I believe the species are Blackening Waxcaps, which start off as small red mushrooms and grow into purply black chunky mushrooms. And Crab Brittlegills… but I’m happy to be proven wrong by a local mushroom enthusiast!
The original watercolour paintings were between 1.5 x 1.5 inches and 6 x 6 inches. I painted many varieties of mushrooms, but these five were my favourite... and my Dad made me little reclaimed wood frames from black walnut, so I am very much enjoying my miniature mushrooms.
