Miniature Portraits 8 : “THE Frog”
Kermit the Frog is the Greatest. Of. All. Time.
I absolutely loved him in the Muppets. The way he tried to hold the whole wacky show together had me in stitches. Then he would occasionally appear on Sesame Street as a news reporter… which blew my mind as a six-year-old, I couldn’t grasp the concept of how he could go from one show to the next! Every time he scrunched his face in frustration I’d crack up.
I probably like him because he’s also the Muppet I most relate to : he feels responsible, tries to hold everything together… occasionally loses his cool in a big way! Also in not finding it easy just being himself… it’s not easy being green!
So with this miniature portrait, I am celebrating Jim Hensen’s beloved Kermit THE Frog.
Art Process : This was originally a vintage print on wood of famous Italian art. The backing was coming off and hanging ribbon and ring was a bit yucky and needed replacing. I pried out the wood panel (which had been glued in), sanded and primed the surface. After drawing and painting studies, I painted the miniature on this wood surface. Once fully dried I coated it with several layers of matte varnish to protect the artwork. Then I carefully shaved down the edges of the the art needed to be trimmed down to fit it back in the frame. Once glued back in, I added a new ribbon & ring so it can be displayed on the wall. And finally added a new patterned back to seal it all in.
Miniature painting in acrylic on reclaimed wood in 9.5 x 12.5 cm vintage gold resin frame. Ready for wall display.
