“What Grace has given me, let it pass to him. Let him be spared. Save him.” —Arwen (Tolkien)
Arwen was our first experience of elves in “The Fellowship of the Ring,” and she was a breathtaking heroine. Gliding in like an angel, she arrived at just the right moment when otherworldly help was needed to save Frodo.
I particularly liked how Aragorn let go his desire to take Frodo himself… to let the task fall to Arwen, who was the better rider and would get to help quicker than he would. It would have been a difficult choice, sending the woman he loved into danger, and he would have feared for her not knowing what happened until he himself had made the journey to Rivendell and found her safe.
So with this alteration, I wanted to capture that moment of Arwen fleeing the Nazgûl… seeing it happening at a distance gives you that same feeling Aragorn had, of being too far away to help her.
This vintage print on board came to me with sun and water damage. I was able to gently lift most of the splatters off without removing the paper. And as for the faded colours, I don’t mind them as part of the charm of the vintage look.
This is a reminder to not display your artwork in the direct sun, as over the years it will gradually fade!
