"Winter Death Star" upcycled vintage painting by Heather Castles
This sweet little winter landscape is being watched by an ominous moon!
I like to add playful additions to old paintings like this, so that at first glance it just looks like another of grandma's paintings... but on closer inspection, there's a little unexpected surprise!
The original vintage painting was by Orvokki Jalava c1950.The Jalava family immigrated to Canada in the 1950’s from Finland, and they all were skilled painters. I’ve ended up collecting a few of their pieces, and it’s fun seeing the same composition painted in each of their styles… they must have enjoyed painting altogether! The vintage frame is in very good condition, sturdy and ready to hang. There is some cracking in the corner decorative bit but it seems pretty solid, so I see them as laugh lines on the frame!
