Birds of Prey, original upcycled vintage painting
“Birds of Prey”
I admit I am a bird nerd… and a Star Trek nerd… and couldn’t miss the opportunity to paint some Klingon warships (a.k.a. Birds of Prey) into this muted, textured landscape.
Keeping to the idea that birds of prey aren’t noticed till the last moment, I’ve painted these in very subtly, so at first you see the landscape… and then you catch sight of the predators overhead.
From what I know of Klingons, it’s a bit out of character for them to do a pleasure cruise through the countryside! I had the classic rock song, “Fly Like An Eagle” running through my head as I painted this… and love imagining these three birds of prey, flying formation, perhaps to the sea for a bit of shore leave.
I collected this vintage artwork locally, I’m not sure who the artist is from the signature, but it looks c1980. The art was in good condition, had just fallen into the “out of vogue” category of thrifted art. The art was falling out of its frame, so I had it repaired as the original frame added to the vintage charm of this piece. It is now being enjoyed at its new home with a fellow Star Trek nerd!
